This (is all our fault)
Don’t read this BuzzFeed piece just before going to bed. It’s so depressing.
It’s also sad to see how many of these issues are being imported to Canada. Somehow, a disturbingly meaningful number of Canadians do not even understand what made Canada one of the best and most admired countries in the world. Today, too many are fooled by politicians who spend their time destroying the public institutions our great-grandparents and grandparents made to secure our futures, at the behest of those who line their pockets. Too many have fallen for the argument that our status quo is proof public institutions cannot work, when they worked wonders for generations, and only struggle now because they’ve been sabotaged through intentional underfunding caused by reckless tax cuts and policies that drive inequality.
Today we hear the US President-elect call Canada a “State” and our Prime Minister a “Governor”, and there has been shocking little said or done in response. To be clear, that’s unacceptable. He should apologize, now.
No, I really mean it. Stop laughing. I’m serious. Oh yeah? No, you.
I still blame Facebook (all social media actually, but especially them) for all of this. And I still blame my generation of software people for making it all happen, starting with the A-list blogger kids from Pyra. This is our shame.
