Hockey with my kids

September 23, 2006

After weeks of searching, I finally found skates that fit me today. I had to drive 50km north to Duncan to get them, but I got them.

Tonight I went to Pearkes Rec Centre with the kids and went skating. On Friday nights between 5:45 and 7:00 they have a family skating session. One end of the ice (from one blue line to the end of the rink) is paritioned off (using orange pylons ;-)) for people who want to play hockey (or skate with a stick and puck).

We each brought a stick and puck, and we skated around and had fun on the ice. I think it's the first time I've skated on ice with a stick and puck since I was 11 years old. I played hockey on rollerblades when I was a teenager but I can't remember playing hockey on ice since we lived in an Edmonton neighbourhood with side-by-side outdoor rinks.

Xavier's skating is getting better each time he goes out there, and both kids had lots of fun playing on the ice. Soon Xavier will be quick enough to keep up with some the faster kids in his hockey lessons. He'll love that, because the fast kids get the puck the most. :-)

I've got to say, I had a ridiculously good time, and I can't wait for my next chance to get out there and play.

Oh, and obviously... Go Oilers Go!
