Could Europe be the new hockey super-league?

Al Strachan, Toronto Sun: Could Europe replace NHL?

That would be an interesting situation. I think having two North American divisions, one with the six Canadian NHL teams (and possibly a couple more, Winnipeg and Hamilton perhaps) and one with viable American teams (probably Detroit, Philly, Manhattan, Boston, Minnesota, Chicago, Dallas, New Jersey, San Jose and Los Angeles) would be great. And yes, the Stanley Cup should be available for the European teams to compete for.

The European players could make this happen by playing there. I know Canadians love good hockey no matter where it comes from, but especially if there is some Canadian content, so if there were some Canadian players playing in Europe too, there would be a market for European hockey on TV in Canada.

It's up the the NHL now.
