Calgary Sun: Soldiers worth little to Liberals

"Because Henwood has paid into his pension for 23 years, he is not eligible to be compensated for his accidental dismemberment. In other words, rather than be rewarded, he is being punished for his long years of service and high rank. Any other insurance scheme pays for loss of limb. In Canada's military, if your pension is too high, your loss is worth zero."

Bruce Henwood lost both legs when an anti-tank mine exploded under the vehicle he was riding in in Crotia in 1995. He's thankful none of the soldiers that survived the F-16 bombing in Afghanistan lost any limbs.
