Copy protection in TVs

Wary of a Video Napster, Hollywood Plots a TV Crackdown -- "A just-released industry proposal would prevent consumers from recording digital-video versions of their favorite shows and movies."

I heard about this last fall, but I thought it was coming from the FCC. This stinks of lawyers just like the failed DiVX-DVD fiasco. I've been warning my friends not to buy HDTVs while this mess is sorted out, in case it ends up changing the standard and rendering the current HDTVs useless.
