FairTax

April 18, 2000

I was thinking about getting rid of income tax, and a Google search found this site:

FairTax: Americans for Fair Taxation. - They propose replacing income/payroll taxes with a 23% federal retail sales tax on new goods and services.

Do you think this is a good idea? Would it work? Would you vote for a government solely because they supported replacing income tax with a national sales tax?

If you have *any opinion* on the basic premise of replacing income tax with a national sales tax, especially (but not only) if you're a Canadian voter, please comment in the discsussion group.
