Jakob on Tomalak

Jakob on Tomalak -- "The best current example is Tomalak's Realm: he usually doesn't write anything, so the editorial selection of links and quotes is the only service provided by the site and that is enough to make it the second-most useful site on the Web today (after Google)."

WOW. I put myself in Lawrence's shoes after reading that statement, and I was glowing. I respect Jakob Nielsen greatly, I can't imagine a greater compliment.

Congrats Lawrence!

How Lawrence does it.

ADC Select Program Promotion ends today

The more I use the Mac OS X Public Beta the more I am impressed with it.

A couple of weeks ago I joined the ADC Select Program. That usually costs $500 for a 1 year membership. Apple has a promotion on right now that makes it only $400.

This promotion ends TODAY. If you're considering Mac OS X Development, I encourage you to sign up.

It's a really good deal, and right now it's especially sweet because Apple includes the OS X System Overview book and a nice OS X T-Shirt in the orientation package.

Of course it also includes the OS X Public Beta and the OS X Developer Tools CD. (note the Developer Tools will be available for free download in mid-October)

Another benefit is being able to purchase WebObjects for only $399 intead of $699. Metrowerks tools are also discounted, as are WWDC passes.

Airport on OS X. - MacNN Forums

Scroll down to the message from "NtroP" posted "09-29-2000 07:48 PM". Apparently it works! I don't have AirPort, but thought this would be helpful to those who do.

By the way, I found that link at osx.macnn.com which is a wonderful resource.

Don Cherry: Canadian athletes need more help if they're going to win medals

"You want me to sit here and say we're doing great? I think we're doing awful. God love our athletes, but how many medals have we got?" Cherry said. "It's ridiculous. Countries that we're sending care packages to are beating us in the gold. It's ridiculous."

This is why I love Don Cherry. The most patriotic, straight-up Canadian in the world. I can't wait for Hockey Night in Canada on CBC, especially Coach's Corner with Don Cherry and Ron McLean.

Igali wins Canada's first gold in wrestling

CBC Sports Online: Igali wins Canada's first gold in wrestling -- "Celebrating after the match, Igali raised the Canadian flag high over his head then placed it on the mat and kissed it in a homage to his adopted country."

And Daniel Igali might well be the second-most patriotic Canadian in the world. Thank you Daniel. These are the kinds of people I want to raise my children to idolize.

In your face!

Woohoo! My ADC Select Orientation Kit arrived, along with the OS X Public Beta and OS X Developer Tools CDs!

That's the good part... the bad part(s):

It also came with an OS X T-Shirt. Why is that bad? I bought one of those a few months ago on Apple's Starting Line website -- total cost with shipping: $70 CDN! (Yeah I got shit for that)

It also came with an OS X System Overview book. Why is that bad? I bought one of those a few months ago on Fatbrain. Total cost with shipping: $30 CDN!

It also came with an OS X Public Beta CD (duh). Guess what, I bought one of those already too, before I decided to join the ADC Select program. Total cost with shipping: $58.14.

That's $160 wasted. Good job.

discuss.userland is taking a holiday

Dave Winer: discuss.userland is taking a holiday -- "I just changed the configuration of this DG, only editors can post. Basically this puts the DG into read-only mode. If you have a comment you want to post in response to something on Scripting News, post it on some other site, and send me a pointer and I'll read it. If I feel it adds an important fact or point of view I'll point to it on Scripting News."

Whaddaya know, he did it! This is great, the soap operas can end and UserLand can focus on making software again. As a UserLand Software user this makes me soooo happy!

Hello from Mac OS X Public Beta

This message posted from Mac OS X Public Beta.

Update: I've spent the day with the OS X Public Beta, and I'm extremely impressed, as an end-user and developer. I look forward to pushing this system further and further.

It's also very comforting knowing that this is UNIX, and knowing that I have a really good Java 2 implementation to work with!
