MacBook Pro is the fastest *Vista* notebook

PC World: The Most Notable Notebooks of 2007

"The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year--or for that matter, ever--is a Mac. Not a Dell, not a Toshiba, not even an Alienware. The $2419 (plus the price of a copy of Windows Vista, of course) MacBook Pro's PC WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 88 beats Gateway's E-265M by a single point, but the MacBook's score is far more impressive simply because Apple couldn't care less whether you run Windows."

Sweet! So if I bang my head on something and lose my mind to such a degree I become a Windows user again (shudder), I'll already have a fast machine to run it on. :-)

On second thought, I might just wear my hockey helmet full-time to avoid such a fate.

Leopard’s out and 2 bugs I found in Tiger are fixed, w00t!

The bad news is our (Apple Developer Connection members) Leopard DVDs won't arrive for more than a week (money grab much?), but the good news is I got two emails from Apple today stating bugs I reported in Tiger are fixed in Leopard.

The first one was regarding using the "Save to Web Receipts" PDF workflow item in the print dialog. It used the document's title + ".pdf" as the filename, so if you used it twice on the same site (say, on two different Paypal receipts) you might overwrite the first PDF generated.

The second one was about a bug in the build settings of an example project provided with the Developer Tools that caused it to not build.

Captain Cyan

It was a really busy weekend for Cyan, she had 2 hockey games on Saturday, and one hockey game and a practice (immediately following the game) on Monday evening.

Before the 3rd game, Cyan's head coach named her the team captain! Wow!

It's a huge honour in any case, but Cyan has only played hockey for one year, and there are a few girls ahead of her on the "depth chart", so I think that speaks volumes about her passion for the game and how quickly she's developed. But as the coach said, she is the team's "mother hen", and she has shown leadership qualities on the ice, especially with helping the girls that are new to the game.

I think she was surprised, and her teammates were really excited for her. I know she's really proud, as we are.

Busy, but that’s good

Wow, it's been a while since I posted here. Things are mostly going well, my knee is gotten good enough to start playing hockey again, although I am being really careful with it, because nowhere near great yet. My MRI is scheduled for Nov. 28th.

School, well it's turned into everything I hoped and feared it would be! I love the courses I'm taking, my excitement was deserved. However, the work load is every bit as crazy as I expected too, hence the lack of posting here.

Not only is school crazy, I'm also volunteering as an assistant coach with Cyan's hockey team, and I had to complete my NSERC application and proposal. I also submitted my application to graduate yesterday at the grad year workshop, which was really useful.

I bought Halo 3 September 27th, because I had pre-ordered it, but I didn't get a chance to really play it until Tuesday night. It's blown away my expectations. The scale of this game makes Halo 2 seem like a toy. Great work Bungie! Of course it's not perfect, but it's the best Halo yet, and for the number of hours of fun I got out of Halo 2, it was surely the cheapest entertainment purchase ever.
