Apple Canada set to flick the switch on iTunes movie downloads

Oops, did I say Canada? I meant, still not Canada. The UK, actually.

AppleInsider: Apple UK set to flick the switch on iTunes movie downloads

If I was a monkey, and Apple's monkey was within range, I would be flinging steaming piles of monkey poo right at the Apple monkey.

It's ridiculous that it's taking this long to get this going in Canada. I don't know a single person in Canada that has an Apple TV, and this is one big reason why.

Interesting week

Last Friday my Xbox was delivered but I had stepped out so I had to wait until Tuesday to get it (Monday was a holiday). I spent the long weekend studying for my final exam so it wasn't a big deal.

But on Saturday night I picked up Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii. It's awesome! And the online play is great.

My final exam went well on Tuesday morning, I messed up a couple questions on the midterm so getting an A+ will be tough, I expect to get an A.

Today my copy of Programming Erlang finally arrived from amazon.ca, they screwed up the order and hadn't sent it yet so they sent it to me with free Express shipping after I complained that it should have shipped a month ago. I can't wait to get into that book!

Xavier started Powerskating classes and bicycle classes this week. He has stubbornly refused to learn to ride without training wheels with us, so finally we stuck him in Pedalheads and they're sorting him out for us. :-) Powerskating is going well too, and he's really enjoying it.

Here's a picture of Xavier at Powerskating (he's the one in the middle) taken by the parent of one of Xavier's lacrosse teammates. Thanks Carol!

Ordered at 15" MacBook Pro

Thanks to everyone for their advice. In addition to asking on my blog, I IM'd and talked with friends who have used the 17" MBP and/or PowerBook in the past or present.

I came to a few conclusions before making my choice:

- When I need the screen space it's usually going to be when I'm not mobile, in which case I'm better off hooking up a big external display. For the difference in price I can get a 22" or 24" display when I really need it.

- My eyes just aren't prepared to deal with even smaller pixels. I've already increased the font size in Mail and am constantly increasing font size / zooming.

- My bag gets heavy enough at school, increasing the weight of my laptop by 26% would really suck.

I did seriously consider getting a normal MacBook and a 24" iMac - the cost would have been close to that of a 17" MacBook Pro, but the screen size of the MacBook would be a problem for me, and I'd rather buy an iMac for the family, not for myself.

Because I'm a student I got a free iPod Nano. They also offered a $130 rebate on a new Canon printer, so I got the Canon PIXMA MP510 Photo printer, which was $179.95. Not sure if that was a student promo or not...

The estimated delivery date is August 21-29. 2-3 weeks? Ack! :-)
