Forever Hawks
Yesterday evening I posted a message in the discussion group about news of the USA's new world-domination-based military policy.
Now the BBC has an article up about it.
BBC NEWS: US plans for first strikes
But to administration officials, the document follows in a tradition of the US being a shining light to the rest of the world.'
More like a gestapo shining his light in the face of our sovereignty. What is freedom if it's only under the guideline of one nation state?
But the document also singles out China, warning about its military expansion.
"In pursuing advanced military capabilities that can threaten its neighbours in the Asia-Pacific region, China is following an outdated path that, in the end, will hamper its own pursuit of national greatness," it says.'
Do they realize how completely ridiculous that reads? "Do as we say, not as we do," they're telling us. We can have national greatness as long as we don't try to be greater than them. Or else they will destroy us because we could only possibly want to be great to destroy them. Apparently, it's okay for the USA to have a military of unlimited size because they're using it for the good of the whole world, and would never use it to gain unilateral advantage. Never.... silly!
It will be verrrry interesting to follow the international response.
Oilers fill the net
CP: Comrie nets hat trick against Canucks. 8-5 Edmonton.
Oh yeah, let's party it's 1985.
From the LCS Hockey NHL Archive:

A minor earthquake
We just had an earthquake here. Less than 25 km east, from the looks of things.
Our phone was out for a few minutes but it's back now.
Oilers vs. Flames, outdoors
CP: NHL considers a proposal to hold outdoor game in Edmonton in 2004
Oh... my... god. If they did that, I would absolutely have to attend. That would rock so hard!!!!
RollerWeblogger vs. Weblogger.com
Update: As I was writing this, Eric officially recinded the threat of suing David over RollerWeblogger. LOL. How's that for real-time action?
David Johnson: Roller vs. WebloggerZilla
Another non-surprise. It looks like Erin has learned a lot (too much) from Dave Winer. Dave pulled the same stunt on Frontier users in 1998 when he threatened us over the domain name frontierusers.net. He claimed he had a trademark on the word "Frontier".
Well he didn't, and we knew it, and he knew we knew, but it didn't make sense to make an enemy of the vendor of the software we advocated, so we relented. There are a lot of software products and non-software products and companies that use the word "Frontier". He didn't go after them, as far as I know, but he went after little-old-us, his most fervent potential customers-to-be.
I hope David doesn't give up like we did. It's totally ridiculous to suggest that Erin owns the word weblogger. What a jerk.
Canadians respond
After Canadian Prime Minister Jean Cretien remarked that the greed of the western nations on the backs of poorer nations (my paraphrasing, that's not exactly his remark) inspired the 9/11 attacks, a New Yorker named Brian O'Hare decided to spout off at Canada and Canadians in a hate-filled rant on CANOE.ca.
I'm proud to see how Canadians responded to that garbage.
CNEWS: Your View
That page will turn over to the next topic soon, maybe today, maybe tomorrow, so don't delay. Brian's comments are at the bottom of the page. Remember the Canadian response to Brian O'Hare. We don't have to accept that kind of abuse, and we won't. Next time you wonder why Canadians aren't always America's cheerleaders, remember what Brian had to say and realize how sick Canadians have become of that attitude towards us and the rest of the world.
