Yeah. Really, if the goal is to win every time, the U.S. would be better
going back to a college team format if they can’t get tier 1 pros like Shaq
and Kobe Bryant to play. Throwing a bunch of second-level NBA players
together in an ad hoc basis is just not going to cut it anymore with the
level of international play that is out there today.
I’ll be cheering on the Tall Blacks tomorrow morning my time. The New Zealand team has already beaten Yugoslavia once this year and they’ll do it again. NZ’s gone from basketball nobodies to genuine medal contenders in the space of 2 months. Quite phenomenal really.
Yugoslavia won the whole shebang beating Argentina 84-77. NZ were beaten by Germany in the playoff for the bronze medal. New Zealand’s major sporting goods chain has sold out of basketballs.
