The CBC is doomed

Canadians responding on CBC regarding their inability to retain Ron MacLean, by all standards a legend in Canadian broadcasting and one of the nicest, most honest people you could ever hope to have represent our national treasure on our national television station, are for the most part furious, disgusted, and flabbergasted.

I like many other Canadians don't know how I'll enjoy Hockey Night in Canada without Ron from Red Deer. How do you have Coach's Corner with Don, and not Ron? Like one person said, "Abbott without Costello. Martin without Lewis. Fred without Ginger."

What are they going to do, have Brian Williams take over? It was more than enough having him on during the Olympics during the evening sessions.

What the CBC needed was TWO Ron MacLeans, not ZERO! What a joke.

The State of our Democracy

This is parts one through 3 of a 19 part series called The State of our Democracy running on canada.com.

Part One: Democracy rule by the people? Not in Canada -- "Canada's democracy has devolved from a nation whose government works for its citizens to one of single-party rule"

Part Two: Searching for a stronger democracy -- "A report on how to make Parliament more relevant has gathered dust for 5 years."

Part Three: Our all-powerful PM -- "Canada has 'perhaps the most unchecked head of government among the democracies'"

There is a schedule, of sorts that describes the upcoming reports.

Britain has dirty, smelly streets

BBC News: Revealed: Britain's dirty, smelly streets

"Britain's public spaces are smelly, litter-strewn eyesores covered in dog faeces, gum and broken glass."

Sounds a lot like downtown San Francisco to me. :-( I'll never get over the smell of urine on the sidewalks there. The thing I miss most about San Francisco, other than the friends I left, are the awesome restaurants we ate in for lunch every day. But the thing I miss least is the walk to and from those restaurants. Yuck.

I remember being so grateful when there was a good rain in SF, because it would wash the sidewalks. That meant I had about a week of being able to breathe through my nose outside in the city.

Scary… weapons-grade uranium seized

CNN.com: Turkey seizes weapons-grade uranium. It was found about 250 km from the Iraq border. Can you imagine if Iraq got there hands on it and used it to fashion a nuke just in time for the upcoming invasion? Scary. Very scary.
