Cyber dream home

CNN.com: Technology takes hold in cyber dream home

It's not often I read or link to stories on CNN anymore, but this link from /. was pretty cool. :)

Visual Impairment Studio 7.0

Dave Winer's web browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer, can't render the Blogging Network site.

I find that quite amusing, since:

1) The site was generated using Microsoft Visual Studio 7.0. just look at the META tags on the page

2) Mozilla renders it very nicely on W2K and OS X.

So either Microsoft's tools can't make IE-compatible pages, the BN guys aren't using the tools properly, or IE just really does suck that badly at CSS. I'm guessing 2 out of the 3. Which two are an exercise left for the reader.

Stickes.app improved in Jaguar

I just noticed two enhancements to the Stickies application in MacOS X 10.2. Under the Note menu, there are two new options for notes: "Floating Window", and "Translucent Window". The former makes the frontmost Sticky window float above other windows, like a palette, and the latter it translucent. (duh)

Stickies.app is one of the most important applications on my system. I use it 20 times a day, at least. It's my temporary clipboard, where I write down unfinished thoughts, ideas, handy command line snippets, URLs I want to remember to visit, and where I jot down notes while on the phone.

These two enhancements are greatly appreciated here. :-)

More experience with Mail.app 1.2

I've been using the new (Jaguar) Mail.app since Sunday. My first impressions were quite negative. My biggest complaint was I could no longer use my SpamAssassin setup because UNIX mailboxes were no longer supported, and Mail's junk filter wasn't as smart as SA.

I'm thrilled to report that Mail's junk filter has improved dramatically! In fact, it's catching more spam than SA was, and tagging way less false positives.

Congrats, Mail.app team!
