Life is tough for a 6 month old boy

On Friday, Xavier started to get a fever. By late Saturday night, we felt we could not only not control it but it was getting worse radiply.

We took Xavier to the hospital at 4 AM on Sunday morning. He was diagnosed with a throat infection of some sort and we were sent home with a prescription for Amoxil.

Last night, I got home (that's the inlaws' place right now while our house is out of commission - yes, still) late after working on the house late, and Xavier was all red, blotchy. Sort of like a rash, not spots, more marble-ish. We called the hospital, they said to bring him into emergency again, with the medicine. Another late and long trip to the hospital. Cheryl was kind enough to let me rest at home instead of sitting like a log in the hospital for hours. I needed the rest, I was tuckered out.

You guessed it - he's allergic to Amoxil! Bummer, the banana flavored stuff is really yummy, it was my favourite medicine as a kid. ;-) So now he has to fight this virus (they now say it's a virus) without any antibiotics for a couple days. Then we can take him into our doctor to see what to do next.

Sleep has been rather erratic lately as a result, especially for Cheryl. Today Xavier is 6 months old... poor little guy, it's too bad he's not his usual happy self to enjoy the accomplishment.

RE: Monday’s the day

Wow. It's been 8 days since Dad has the radio-frequency rhizotomy and I didn't even report back on the outcome! A couple people have kindly e-mailed me asking how things went... to kill a few birds with one stone, I'll answer the question here and point them to this entry.

The procedure was successful in that he no longer has any pain from the trigeminal neuralgia. It was unsuccessful in that the neurosurgeon has admitted to "overdoing it a little"... most of the right side of dad's mouth is numb. He has to drink through a straw. That makes drinking coffee and tea and other hot drinks rather difficult. Also, they may have touched a nerve that deals with sensation in or around the eye, or, there's swelling around the eye, because his vision is blurry on the right side and he says he thinks there's constantly water pouring down the cornea... but if you look at him both eyes look the same and there's no dampness.

He knew (but wasn't really believing) there would be side effects to the procedure. It's hard to accept having one's face all numb, indefinitely, but it has to be better than the pain he had.

Thanks to everyone for their support, it means a lot to us... sorry for making you wait for the good news!

Bush’s stained dress

Christopher Caldwell, NYPress: Hill of Beans

"It is the story of a man who talks with a straight face about having "earned" a fortune of tens of millions of dollars, without having ever done an honest day’s work in his life."

But it doesn't stop there...

From the flip side, things look bleak to Gretz

Gretzky: Common man doesn't relate to astronomical salaries paid to athletes

It's a little strange to hear GRETZKY, of all people, complaining about salaries, considering he pretty much started it all by accepting the $8M/year deal LA offered him when he was traded from Edmonton... but I'm willing to put that aside, and say, hell yeah I agree with him and I hope him and people like him succeed in restoring sanity to the NHL.

Don’t Rush Me, I’ve got 95% to go

Rush Limaugh: APPLE STUPIDITY

I think what Rush is trying to say is, "I ooze money, and Steve Jobs should be sucking it off me like a five-dollar whore".

But I could be wrong. Maybe Rush is jealous Steve gets to wear casual clothes at work and he has to wear a suit and oxygen-deprevation device around his neck to pony to his crowd.

I'd love to see a Rush Limbaugh switcher ad. Problem is, he isn't a switcher... he's been a Mac user for quite a while.
