Linksys WiFi router on sale again

Amazon has the Linksys Wi-Fi Cable/DSL router/firewall I bought on sale again. If you're looking for a good WiFi base station and don't need the modem, AOL connectivity or stylish look Apple's base station offers, the Linksys is a good bet, I think.

Beware that it doesn't do AppleTalk over WiFi, apparently, but if you're using OS9/OSX/Win boxes exclusively, this shouldn't be an issue.

spam on the webobjects-newbies list

Today, some twit supposedly named Tony Drum posted three messages to the webobjects-newbies list I moderate at Yahoo! Groups about an iPlanet-focused web site.

As soon as I noticed this today I removed him from the list and banned his email address (a yahoo.com email address).

I sent this message to the Yahoo! Groups abuse department:

"Tony Drum (tonydrumus@yahoo.com) posted three identical messages to the webobjects-newbies group today advertising a site about iPlanet, a competing product.

It is inappropriate to be sending spam to lists about products completely unrelated to the group. People do not subscribe to a -newbies list for general industry marketing messages to be broadcast to them.

I have removed and banned this user from the webobjects-newbies group.

If his actions fall outside of your Acceptable Use Policy I
suggest you take the appropriate action.

Thank you,

Jim Roepcke
webobjects-newbies moderator"

Grrr.

New ball not popular with players

AP: New World Cup ball criticized before first one is kicked

For such a fiercely (and religiously) competed world sport, I find it incredible that a variable as significant as the ball is changed so flippantly.

Offering of Netflix Brings in $82.5 Million

NYTimes: Offering of Netflix Brings in $82.5 Million

What does this mean for Netflix? It seems like when a company IPOs and becomes a part of the only-this-quarter's-results-matters corporate machine one of the first things that happens is customer service is slashed and the screws are tightened on the customers.

(There are exceptions, Amazon for one, who continues to add more friendly and useful services to its site, for customers and associates. No, I don't own Amazon stock.)

As I've mentioned before, I cancelled my subscription because Netflix refused not to bill me for months I didn't use their service. And now that I'm moving back to Canada, I won't be able to use their service anyway (unless they recently added Canadian service and I somehow missed it).

Hopefully Netflix will use the money for good and not evil... oh, and bring it's rental business to Canada! ;-)

Soldiers worth little to Liberals

Calgary Sun: Soldiers worth little to Liberals

"Because Henwood has paid into his pension for 23 years, he is not eligible to be compensated for his accidental dismemberment. In other words, rather than be rewarded, he is being punished for his long years of service and high rank. Any other insurance scheme pays for loss of limb. In Canada's military, if your pension is too high, your loss is worth zero."

Bruce Henwood lost both legs when an anti-tank mine exploded under the vehicle he was riding in in Crotia in 1995. He's thankful none of the soldiers that survived the F-16 bombing in Afghanistan lost any limbs.

The CHA has lost its marbles

CANOE: Atoms move towards body contact

This is a big mistake, and shows the level of greed and disrespect the parents of hockey kids have in Canada. So desperate to have their kids become the next Chris Pronger or Keith Primeau, they'll risk the health and future of their 9 year old kids for a shot at the NHL lottery.

Pathetic. For shame.
