Oilers grease skid

To the people who still don't believe me when I try to explain how much Edmontonians and Calgarians hate each other, check this out:

Calgary Sun: Oilers grease skid

'Leave it to the good folks of Edmonton to make life even more gut-wrenching for the Calgarians.

A mere 17 minutes into last night's contest at the Skyreach Centre, perhaps establishing some kind of record, the mischievous northern Albertans serenaded the visitors with a hearty chorus of the Na-na, hey-hey, goodbye song.

Then, just to twist the knife a little, the Oilers in the second period ran a vignette on the scoreboard with a snaggle-toothed dolt in a Flames jersey proclaiming: "I'm from Calgary and I'm stupid."'

Ahhhh... (deep breath, exhale) nothing like a good Calgary joke to start the week off right!

Backup Brain

Backup Brain has the quote of the day:

"There is a ribbon to protest the CBDTPA, but due to the DMCA, it can't be publicized."

(The CBDTPA is the new name of the evil SSSCA bill)

The Anti-Mac Corporate Conspiracy

Thanks to Andrew Jung for this link:

BusinessWeek Online: An Anti-Mac Corporate Conspiracy?

"The rising complexity of workplace computing makes big companies ever more dependent on tech support, so what self-respecting chief information officer is going to recommend a computer -- such as the Mac -- that might shrink rather than expand his department's influence?"

I know people in IT departments who have admitted to me personally that they'd rather keep Windows machines at their place of employment because it keeps them busier and protects their job. Very sad.

Sunday is the best day of the week

Two weeks ago on Sunday I did nothing. I just sat in my room, surfed in my pyjamas, ate, and went to bed.

Last week Sunday was a real treat! Donald W. Larson, who I worked with at Macrobyte (a fully distributed company) drove up to Irvine from San Diego and we spent the day together. I showed him WebObjects, we created an application with it, went out for lunch, BS'd, etc. It was a great day.

Today I went to a computer show/fair in Pomona (I hope I'm spelling that right). It was huge. I was good, I didn't buy anything, but there were a couple things there I was really eyeballing, like a 48GB laptop hard drive for about $150. After that we went to Baker's Square for a late lunch (mmm, Cinnamon Roll French Toast).

I've been working 6 days a week since I got here, so Sunday's the only day I've had to relax and do my own thing. It hasn't been too bad. Certainly less sucky than when I was in San Francisco by myself... but maybe that's because I only have one day off instead of two. Weekends were really lonely, depressing times for me. I hated Friday in San Francisco because it meant I had to spend the next two days alone rather than with people (at work).

I can't wait to get back to Canada so I can spend quality time with people every day.
