DotNot Terrarium

DotNet Community: Terrarium (emphasis below is my own)

Interestingly, at the time of development, the DirectX SDK had not been implemented for managed, or .NET Framework-based, code. As a result, the developers of Terrarium took advantage of COM Interop, a .NET Framework service used to tie into existing unmanaged code from within a .NET Framework-based application. The ability to call unmanaged code is a powerful one and can enable developers to leverage existing, legacy components as they go forward in their application development.

So now we know what .NET is (we knew it all along but were afraid to ask) -- just another plaform from Microsoft with just enough gaps in functionality to tie it to Windows. Really makes that CLR look useful, huh?

I doubled their income!

Yahoo! News: Krispy Kreme Net Income Nearly Doubles

And you have two people to thank for that. The first for introducing the second to the splendor that is Krispy Kreme... mmmmm.

New Sony Palms look sweet

PalmInfocenter: Sony Introduces Two Models with Keyboards, MP3 Players

Okay, these things kick ass big time. These look like something a character in a William Gibson novel would be carrying around. All that's missing is a video phone and a wireless link to the Matrix. :-)

The price is good too, IMHO.

Better late than never

Rafe on the news that AOL will use Gecko instead of IE for AOL 8:

"it means that all you lazy people who just coded your sites to work with IE had better get to work fixing your sites so that they are standards compliant."

Mmmwwwuuuhahahahaa!

Tinderbox… ooh

Steve mentioned this thing called Tinderbox on his site today. This thing looks and sounds amazing, and it's getting high marks from a number of places!

Like Steve, I intend to dive into this technology once it's available for Mac OS X.

Subtly becoming a police state

John Perry Barlow, Co-Founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, had this to say on September 11th: (this is only a snippet of a much larger essay, which is definitely worth reading once or twice)

"Within a few hours, we will see beginning the most vigorous efforts to end what remains of freedom in America. Those of who are willing to sacrifice a little - largely illusory - safety in order to maintain our faith in the original ideals of America will have to fight for those ideals just as vigorously."

German and Danish soldiers killed

Yahoo! News Photos - Terrorism & Sept. 11 Attacks -- " German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder addresses the media during a news conference in Berlin Wednesday, March 6, 2002, after two German and three Danish soldiers were killed by anti-aircraft missiles that the peacekeepers in the Afghan capital Kabul were trying to defuse."

Has anyone heard about this story yet? Argh.

Update: I found the story on the BBC. Peacekeepers die in Kabul blast. Brian sent me the link to a story on CNN: Five troops die in Kabul accident.
