Soldiers watched game in Afghanistan
Stephen Thorne, Canadian Press: Canadians king in Kandahar after hockey team wins
Herbal Remedy – can Brooks
Brooks goes out grumbling. The players were gracious and respectful but like I said, Brooks has no class. What a whiner. He complains that Canada had the easy route to the finals...
Uhh... Canada was seeded lower in the round robin than the US, and therefore Canada was in the tougher bracket. They played Finland (no pushovers, that was closer than the Canada/USA match) and Belarus, which was easy but they would have played Sweden had Belarus not pulled off a miracle (and Sweden whooped Canada 5-2)
USA played Germany, which plays a tough game but is just as easy as Belarus, and Russia, which isn't any tougher than the highly underrated Finland. I don't know what he's whining about. Go away Herb Brooks. Let someone with class coach the classy American team.
Gold for CBC, bronze for NBC
Toronto Sun: It's gold for CBC, bronze for NBC
I watched the NBC broadcast... I must say, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be from watching hockey on American TV in the past. It was a good thing there weren't any European teams playing though because those guys make a mockery of their names.
It was very annoying that they kept going to commercial and missing the play, but I knew that would happen. And they also missed most of the post-game ceremony with commercials... argh! I'm glad my mom and brother-in-law Shane taped it for me on CBC.
I'll say this: the commentators were pretty objective, and knew their hockey. (that goes without saying for John Davidson but you never know which NASCAR or NBA commentator they'll throw into the booth with him). Gary Thorne kept making mistakes though, like calling Phil Housley Canadian (he's on the USA team) and things like that. I picked up probably half-a-dozen minor gaffes.
Anyway, it wasn't so bad watching it on NBC, but gimme Bob Cole, Harry Neale, Don Cherry and Ron MacLean any day of the week.
It’s a puke story play
Pet Peeve alert: when people refer to their or someone else's product and/or strategy as a having a "story" or being a "play". That's so frickin' lame. Please, stop it.
