Canada’s team is set

CANOE 2002 Games: Team Canada names final roster

Ryan Smyth and Eric Brewer of the Oilers were named to the team! Unfortunately the Oiler's Anson Carter wasn't, but I think the selections made were great. It's not a bad thing when you have so much talent to pick from that many great players don't get the nod.

Both Oilers goalies were named to their respective Olympic teams, for Sweden and Finland... the only team in that situation. The Oilers also have 2 or 3 players who should be named to the American team, Todd Marchant for sure, and Tom Poti and Mike Grier, probably. Oiler defenseman Janne Niinima will be on Finland's blue-line. If Germany is in the Olympic hockey tournament (I don't know if they are), Jochen Hecht would be on the team.

And don't forget Doug Weight, now of the STL Blues (sigh), and Billy Guerin, now of the BOS Bruins; both played for the Oilers last year and will be on Team USA for sure.
