MS two faced over Java, same old tricks

Microsoft blesses Java for phones while it hides Java for Windows

This is so typical. Slide along the beaten path until they've backstabbed everyone ahead of them. I predict they'll drop their embedded Java stuff the moment they've managed to get a monopoly in that market (which I hope they never do).

Halcyon Software, Inc. Announces a .NET Implementation for Mac OS X

The initial release scheduled for later this year will fully support the deployment of ASP.NET applications (including ADO.NET, and WebForms) on OS X systems."

And get this, it converts the MS IL (CLR bytecodes) to Java bytecodes that run on any Java platform.

LOL!

The Isolation of John McCain

The Isolation of John McCain

"At last week's regular luncheon of 49 Republican senators, John McCain entered early and took a seat at a table. Nobody even joined him. McCain seated alone reflected his colleagues' attitude toward the one U.S. senator with a national following."

So much for what I said last week about being able to vote against the party and not be punished.

Microsoft blinks

DaveNet : Microsoft blinks in antitrust case

"...with a little more effort [Microsoft] could have made it so that the HTML renderer was integrated through a programming interface, allowing the OEM or user to specify Netscape or some other browser as the system-level renderer.

It would have been the natural thing to do. Creating those kinds of interfaces is exactly what an operating system vendor does, that's what an operating system is, a collection of such interfaces."

FairTax in the Hoooouuuuussssse

In April last year I mentioned FairTax. I've been following their progress closely ever since.

I just received an e-mail from them saying that late last night, Congressman John Linder (R-GA) and Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN) reintroduced the FairTax, and it was assigned H.R. 2525 as its bill number.

This closely follows on the heels of a New York Times article a few days ago which said Bush was interested in overhauling the whole tax system. For once, Bush's administration is doing something I actually like!
