Gooooogle… Goooooogle!

Google rocks! About.com rocks!

I wanted to find info about fitness centres in Victoria, BC. They just unveiled their advanced features, which bring it pretty close in functionality to AltaVista, but with Google's legendary quality search results.

First I tried "fitness victoria". That didn't work, too many pages about Victoria in Australia.

Then I tried "fitness victoria -australia", but that wasn't very good either, too many general victoria hits.

So, finally: "+fitness +victoria -australia".

2nd hit: Fitness and Wellness - Victoria BC

This is a great page... I didn't figure I'd actually find all these links on one page -- I expected to spend the whole night finding these.

Thank you Google and About.com!

Driving range

Lots of golfing this weekend. Went to the range twice (free both times, friends have expiring punch cards), and to a 9-hole course this evening. I got par on 2 of the 9 holes, my total... 46 (+19!).

My chipping and putting was horrendous -- my short game is usually my saving grace. Off the tee was pretty solid, which is usally erratic.

I better go to sleep, I have to get up early tomorrow to do paperwork to transfer away the lease on my Ford Explorer, then go to Saturn to do paperwork there.

Weight loss update

Went to the doctor yesterday for a weight-loss-checkup. Official weight loss so far: 33.5 pounds since May 2nd. My goal of 70 pounds by April 25, 2001 seems very attainable now.

My new goal is 100 pounds (no target date, but April 25, 2001 would be nice), which my doctor says is my target weight.

So, I'm 66.5 pounds overweight, 6'4" tall. I have work to do!

Saturn LW1 – the L series Wagon

Saturn: LW1 -- this might be my next vehicle. I've put a deposit down on one. Once my existing vehicle is off my hands (on Monday), I'll sign the papers at Saturn.

I love Saturn cars. :) This would be my second. I had a 1996 SL 1, and kept it for the full three year lease term. I got the Ford Explorer after that because I really needed more leg-room for my messed up knee, and Saturn didn't make a large enough vehicle. Now, with their L series cars, they finally do.

Hmm... I like Macs, dig Saturn cars. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, pirate software, movies or songs, nor do I eat McDonald's hamburgers, or drink pop. Oh, and I've never stepped foot inside a Walmart store. What a weirdo. :-) (at least that's what my friends call me -- that, and freak)

Is Apple purposely leaking [mis]information?

Am I the only one that finds it a little bit odd that ZDNet has gotten information about Mercury, the supposed PowerBook G4, and InkWell, the supposed Newton HWR system for Mac OS [X]?

Apple's normally very air-tight, you can't get anything out of them. But suddenly, after MacWorld, there's all this information, and even pictures, of unreleased and unannounced products.

Conspiracy theory #1: It's all bogus. Apple Misinformation Campaign hits ZDNet.

I mean, a slot-loading DVD-ROM drive on a PowerBook? Personally, I wouldn't want a gaping hole on the side of my computer only a half an inch off the ground, where dust and spilled liquids could destroy the machine.

Handwriting recognition? Well, I'd love it, and the theory that a new PDA-style portable OS X machine using this software is forthcoming is very intruiging, but I think it's just too good to be true. (somebody pinch me!)

Conspiracy Theory #2: Apple has decided to let some information through, either as a trial balloon, or to get people excited about handwriting recognition for a few months before they announce it, so that there won't be as many knee-jerk negative reactions about it.

Conspiracy Theory #3: It just got leaked.

Conspiracy Theory #4: Apple's changing their ways and is letting more info out to the press, because they realize they've been way TOO tight with future product information.

Which theory do you support? Or do you have your own?

Cobalt has their heads up their asses

Apple faces suit over Cube -- Cobalt says Apple ripped off their case design for the G4 Cube.

Uh, yeah right. Cobalt forgets that Apple owns NeXT, which created the NeXT Cube many many years ago. This is not a new idea. Cobalt, fuck off.
