Thanks for the information Pierre! It's unfortunate the support representative wasn't willing (or able?) to share that information with me. I think it's important for a service like site5.com to be transparent with their customers to maintain trust.

The question is, how do you know when site5's mail server isn't working so you can tell them so they can fix it?

One thing I've been thinking of...

- Set up an email account on the site5 server.

- Set up a cron job on a remote server to send an email to that account every 5 minutes.

- Set up a fetchmail job on the remote server to suck down that account every minute.

- If the fetchmail job doesn't receive any mail from that account in say, 11 minutes, set an alarm/notification somehow to tell me. I suppose that's the tricky part... how should I notify myself? How often? SMS might be nice...
