At the moment, that only works if the email client is doing it's job. I
don't know of any email clients from Microsoft that include the
"In-Reply-To" mail header, but most others do.

Actually, the big free mail services don't include it either.

:-(

If your mail client doesn't include In-Reply-To header, then the message
will be treated as a new discussion thread/topic.

That behaviour is temporary. It'll change this summer, when we'll no
longer depend on the mail clients to include that header (though we'll
still use it if it's included).
