iCal is supa fly
Apple: iCal -- Jaguar users, download it now! It is, da bomb. :-)
It's not as good for business/project/customer tracking as Marketcircle's DayLite, but that's DayLite's focus, and not iCal's.
I'll forgive Apple for not having Canadian holiday and NHL schedule calendars in their Calendar Library, 'cause iCal rocks, but please make one sooooon! (feedback already sent to iCal team) Update: I have it from a friend of a friend of a friend who works in the iApps group that a Canadian holiday schedule is forthcoming. :-)
BTW, I want to make a WeblogView page that generates an iCal file so people can subscribe to the blog in iCal, but I don't think Conversant has all the things I need to do it. :-( (hint hint) It would be a nice groupware feature, wouldn't it?
PCWorld drivel
PCWorld.com: Apple Makes a Pitch to Switch
PCWorld says there are rumors that the people in Apple's switch ads aren't real switchers, just actors. Well, I don't know about all of them, but I know one of the switchers, we've chatted in AIM about WebObjects in the past, and he's completely for real. If he's an actor, he's an actor who switched to the Mac.
Pinstripe Theme for Mozilla
Pinstripe Theme for Mozilla. Makes Mozilla look like Aqua -- and not a crappy Aqua like you'd see on a Linux theme -- really nice Aqua.
Thanks for the link Nicholas!

Ruby?
linux.oreillynet.com: An Introduction to Ruby from way back in October of last year.
Should I care about Ruby? It's gotten enough attention to become part of MacOS X in Jaguar, and I keep hearing about it here and there. When I read "the OOP power of Smalltalk with the utility of Perl and the power of Python," I get excited, but when I read it's a "better Perl than Perl," I cringe.
I guess I'll enqueue it to the list of things I want to learn. (Sorry Ruby ;-))
Gary Suter to retire
AP: San Jose defenseman Gary Suter to retire... Good riddens!
I can't tell you how happy I am to see this dirty villian retire from hockey. I have despised him for years. It started with all the cheap shots when he was a Calgary Flame. Frankly, I didn't like him just because he was a Flame, and that was reason enough for an Oilers fan in the late-80's. Then, during the Canada Cup in 1991, he cheaply drilled Wayne Gretzky into the boards from behind with a cross-check, injuring his back badly. He missed the rest of the tournament and his back was never the same.
In 1998, just before the Nagano Olympics, he cross-checked (that means two hands on the stick, push the stick away from your body parallel to your torso) Paul Kariya right in the face(!) just after he scored a goal (yes, the play was over and he was celebrating his goal), giving him a horrific concussion and making him miss the Olympics completely, and the final 28 games of the NHL season after that.

Yugoslavia oust US from bball medals
Toronto Sun: Yugoslavia oust Americans from medal contention. Ouch!
The Troubling New Face of America
Jimmy Carter: The Troubling New Face of America
That pretty much sums it all up. Thank you Mr. Carter.
JavaServer Faces early access
java.sun.com: JavaServer Faces
I've been waiting for this for quite a while. At first their goals sounded like they were trying to implement the WebObjects (HTML) framework for JSP. Now people are saying it reminds them of ASP.NET, which I noticed tries hard to do WebObjects-like things.
And the timing of this specification/API publication is very interesting and very appreciated. I've been learning Servlets, JDBC and JSP this week. I've been keeping private notes, and in them you'll find the words 'crap', 'weak', 'poorly designed', and 'yikes' quite a few times. Hopefully JavaServer Faces will make this technology a lot more productive.
