Failed dot-coms may be selling your private information

News.com: Failed dot-coms may be selling your private information -- "The practice has raised the hackles of some privacy watchdogs and possibly thousands of consumers who assumed the data would not be transferred."

5! more panoramas

Yesterday, Alex and I shot 5 more QTVR panoramas. We've processed 3 of them so far. The ones we're processed are really really beautiful, IMHO. I'll upload them to the panoramas page when I've finished processing all 5.

There will be 2 shots from Saxe Point in Esquimalt (a municipality of Greater Victoria, home of our western naval base), and up to 3 shots of a 90mm anti-aircraft gun from Fort Rodd Hill National Park, a historical military site.

4 new paons uploaded

It must be July, the panos are flowing. ;-P

Alex and I went to a very cool site today, the Kinsol Trestle, one of the largest wooden trestles in Canada! A magnificent sight -- I would have loved to stay there for hours, but we only had time to take 2 QTVR panos.

I've processed the first one, which is now available for download from the QTVR panoramas page. These panos were taken with a better digital camera than previous ones, so it's much larger and sharper. Please check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Also, the 2 panos from Saxe Point, and 1 of the 3 panos of the 90mm AA gun are now available.

2 new panos forthcoming

Today, Alex, Justin and I took two new panoramas. I used the same camera I used last Canada Day -- it's produces 640x480 images. Maybe I'll have a nice 3Mpixel+ camera by next Canada Day.

The first panorama, already processed, is of the Gorge Waterway in Victoria, from a walkway in the Kinsmen Gorge park. I spent a lot of time in this park between the ages of 12 and 16, we lived just outside the park.

The second panorama, which I'm working on, is shot atop the Selkirk Trestle, which is now a pedestrian walkway / bike path. Until sometime in the 1920s, it was an important part of the railway here on Vancouver Island.

As soon as both panoramas are ready, I'll upload them and make them available for download on the QTVR pano page.

Happy Birthday Canada!

Happy Birthday Canada!

Last year, Alex and I went to the top of Mt. Douglas, and we shot our first ever QTVR panorama. This year, we're going to make another pano... it's becoming a tradition. :) I don't know where we're going yet.

2 new panos uploaded

I've uploaded 2 new QuickTime VR panoramas. They are available from the bottom of the panoramas page. Check out the Kinsmen Gorge Park, and the Selkirk Trestle bridge, both along the Gorge waterway.

Windows 2000 and QuickTime

Last night I spent hours trying to get QuickTime 4.1.2 installed properly on Windows 2000. No matter what I did, the browser plugins would not be installed, and Windows Media Player refused to give up control of those datatypes.

After much hacking, and manually copying the plugins from my machine onto this new one, I got it pretty much working.

Bastards.

International e-business

Another great article found via Faisal.com:

Sale means "dirty" in French. -- "Would you open a spiffy new storefront in downtown Yokohama, conduct business exclusively in English and accept only U.S. dollars as payment? ThatÂ’s what most e-commerce companies are doing."
