The Amiga story isn't going away. It's looks almost certain now that the new Amiga computer will run on processors, or use some sort of technology, from Transmeta, fabled home of Linus Torvalds. Like I said, the computer industry is my soap-opera... ;-)

ven though I'm not into scary movies, the Blair Witch Project has got my attention. Robert saw it, and Chuck at Looka saw it... both have things to say about it.
I think Looka is going end up on my list of sites I visit regularly (which needs updating). It's easy on the eyes, and the content is great!
Here's incentive for visiting Looka: A link to an article about a big-budget Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie.
Speaking of easy to read, it's definitely worth mentioning that Kikaze fixed it's text and link colours. It's now very readable. Thanks!

I did it, and I still don't know what to think of it. I bought a starter set of golf clubs yesterday! I never imagined I'd ever become a golfer. But, it looks like I might be... well, a really crappy one at this point, but still...
Thing is, I blew out my right knee a few years ago, and ever since, I have not been able to do much of anything athletic that I did previously. If I had been a pro-athlete, with access to medical technology us commoners can't get, my knee would have been fixed in no-time. But alas, I can't play tennis anymore, or squash, roller-hockey, or soccer, or much of anything. If I do, I'm seriously risking dislocating (popping) my knee.... that is NOT a pretty sight, and it hurts like you wouldn't believe.
So, now I'm playing golf, one of few outdoors sports I can safely partake in. And everyone keeps telling me that walking is good for me, so hey, I'll be doing LOTS of that, the way I play!!
Cycling is another activity I can do, but my inactivity since my accident has left me in such bad shape that I can never get very far from home on my bike. I just wish golf wasn't so expensive... I'd get a lot of exercise if it wasn't.

I am seriously considering buying season tickets for the Edmonton Oilers, even though they are at least 1500 km away. Why? Here's why...

Oh, I really hope the rumors are true on this one: Pixar to remake Tron? Please oh please oh please!!!

Sceptre created an LCD display that won't reveal what's on the screen unless you're wearing polarized glasses. It looks like anyone with polarized glasses could see what's on the screen, so I don't see it as being very practical, if you want real security. Cool idea, though.

Compaq has a patent for a special laptop keyboard that can charge your battery as you type. They should license that patent - it would probably be more profitable for them to do that than try to keep it to themselves.

The underside of the iBook has two metal "dots" exposed. These are connectors for a theoretical third-party iBook charger... I read somewhere that this would be an ideal product for the K-12 industry... create a station that can charge 10 or more iBooks at the same time.
Prediction:
At Macworld in San Fransisco, January 2000 (or perhaps in time for the holiday season, ie: November), Apple will announce a "wind-up" / "crank" battery charger for the iBook. This crank will connect to the bottom of the iBook, using the two metal connectors. The wind-up charger will either be Apple branded, or maybe direct from the company that created it, Freeplay. My guess is it will be Apple branded.
It will take 45 seconds of winding to get 2 hours of battery life.
Apple will claim this is better than Compaq's charging keyboard, because when people are surfing the 'net, they usually aren't typing.
For more background, check out this Wired story, or this MacCentral story.

Cool, I haven't seen a Don Crabb article in a while. He compares the new iBook to the cheapest (and usually more expensive than the iBook) Wintel laptops. Don used to write on MacCentral... I wish he still did, because it's a site I visit regularly anyway.
One thing I like about Don Crabb is he's involved in the education and corporate sectors, as I am (at work), so he usually has something to say that interests me.

Morning update:
BeOS R4.5 installed "like a glove" yesterday. The only thing I regret is not doing a clean install, because I think there's some old stuff hanging around that I don't need any more. I'm probably going to re-install it again tonight. Hardly a big deal, since it only takes 15 minutes :-)
It seems faster than R4. There was one annoyance, with the sound recorder app. As soon as I opened it, I started to hear a loud "click" in my speakers... repeating every 3 seconds or so. I couldn't figure out how to get it to stop, so I rebooted! :-)

Corel is teaming up with Amiga to bring apps to their new platform. It's well known in Canada that Cowpland has a lot of cash to throw at the company, but I get the feeling they're spreading themselves way too thin.

Macworld reveals its best of show awards.
Macworld's site directed me to their MacBuy site. I used it to compare prices for the iBook. So far, everyone's sticking pretty close to the SRP. MacBuy is powered by WebObjects...
